Help! Sober Companion Wanted – Hunting The Green Fairy

Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Readers I need your help…

Many is the time I have turned to you for advice, help, or even in order to appeal for funds for some sort of run. And each time you have come to my rescue. This time I would like one of you to partner me chasing fairies in Switzerland. This is not quite the lost cause it may initially sound like as firstly, we would be hunting for only one; the Green One, or as the locals would call it La FΓ©e Verte and secondly, I am pretty sure I know where to look.

At this point I would love the above to be sufficient information for one adventurous soul to sign up. However, for good measure, and as I can’t expect you all to be that crazy, I will provide a little more background…

Last week I watched a rather ordinary documentary about a rather extraordinary drink; Absinthe. I simply had no idea of the incredible history of this drink – this will be part of the journey; I will aim to fascinate you with it on the journey down from Paris. You will not be bored.

So, as I have always liked to consider myself somewhat of a writer; it is my main passion after all, and having learned what I have through research this week, and having only tried the drink once in a bar in Antibes, when I had no clue (and was mainly there for the silly hats they provided you with), I simply have to try it (a lot of it) and then write… you know, and see what comes out. I mean, is that not a cool (see why I need to try to write on Absinthe? To use better words than ‘cool’) reason for a holiday?

(At this point, I might need to insert that doing so is perfectly legal)

Now having just discovered where the fairy was born, and hence when we find her – not if – what I require is for you to fulfil some classic duties such as make sure I get home ok and to boot of course ensure I don’t call or text anyone I shouldn’t, but crucially on top of this, place a pen in my hand and a piece of paper in front of me and say – firmly – ‘write’. In other words a travelling wingman (or woman). Ok so it might just end up as drunken nonsense, but what fun to try? I have long since discovered that I prefer ‘holidays’ with a purpose or mission even. This seems as good as any. I do realise that these days I could pretty much walk into any European bar and carry out said experiment, but it is just not as fun as going to the birthplace and trying the stuff made there by generation after generation, no?

Details and requirements therefore of my ‘hunting partner’ – you need:

1. To be able to be in CDG airport on April 30th.
2. I will return you to the same spot on May 6th (maybe 5th).
3. To be prepared for me to tell you the story of the fairy as we travel 500 kms South West to her native valley in Switzerland.
4. To carry funds and phone (both provided by me) as we go a-hunting in the local bars.
5. To make sure I get home (I will supply accommodation – as well as car hire) in a state able still to hold a pen.
6. The days will be spent hiking around the Swiss countryside.
7. A sense of humour and above all adventure – who knows what will come of this, but potentially what a memory no?

They say of the Fairy that;

After the first glass you see things as you WISH they were; after the second you see things as they are NOT; finally you see things as they REALLY are.

Want to come with me and find out if it is true? Apply here… (Ok you can certainly be allowed your night chasing too…) Finally I might add too that successful completion of your ‘duties’ on what is essentially a free holiday, will lead you to be first in line for part two as just once one surely also has to try ‘chasing the dragon’ – now THAT is a free holiday not to miss! πŸ˜‰

  3. What a magical adventure—-So sad that my white witch activities hold me captive in another place of interest .May just be free for moments long enough to permit me ,as ever, to hover above, unseen ,unheard ,but possibly, positively sensed ,just a little—Tanti baci—-Buona fortuna!

    • Ahh my beautiful witch – Queen of the Fairies indeed, you are always sensed I promise you that… I shall pass on my regards to your daughters when I find them – tanti tanti baci πŸ™‚

  4. I have hubbled and bubbled over my cauldron ,stirring every possible combination [but not thrown in any toads ,newts, etc ,as such cruelty ,as you know ,is against my religion!] in an effort to magically alter the dates listed in this blog —–but sadly my powers have failed me—leaving me simply to imagine the curiosities and enchantments of this extraordinary voyage—A presto, spero. Un caro abbraccio forte, la Strega Bianca.XXXXX

    • Strega Bianca… you will be with me in spirit and whatever potions, spells and concoctions come out of it shall be sent to you on the wings of fairies, you know that… Love that you are the only witch not to use toads etc… keep it up! πŸ˜‰

  5. OMG I would love to come with you! Shame it’s far, and I have a one year old, and I will be just back from the Philippines!

  7. This made me laugh…I wish I could apply for the job!! Alas, won’t be at CDG for another 352 days. πŸ™

    • Denise! I LOVE that you always know the number of days πŸ˜‰ We really should get, just once, a non-kids trip together and get Bryan along too – so he can ‘forget’ his bag in all the best places! Big hug.

      • We are all in once you get that travel company of yours started! πŸ™‚

      • Deal! πŸ˜‰ You guys will certainly be first on the list…
